Venus Flytraps
It’s always nice to learn something new about where we live. I recently came across an article in Our Statemagazine and learned that “North Carolina has the greatest diversity of carnivorous plants in the U.S., behind Florida.” I also learned that the infamous Venus Flytrap only grows along the Carolina coast within 90 miles of Wilmington, NC.
If you’d like to see these little sinister plants in their natural habitat, you can find them along the Flytrap Trail at Carolina Beach State Park. Because it’s located just 16 miles south of downtown Wilmington, my partner Becky and I decided to drive down for a visit last month.
Although the plants are few and far between, there are a couple of boardwalks that make them easier to find. During our short hike, Becky patiently held an umbrella over the plants to block the sun while I captured a few dozen images with my macro lens. The photo above is one of the best.
